16th European Shin Conference 2012
"The Importance of Sangha"
Dear Dharma friends,
We take great pleasure in inviting you to the 16th European Shin Buddhist Conference, which will be held in the EKŌ House of Japanese Culture in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 31st August to 2nd September 2012. Like the former biannual conferences it is sponsored by the International Association of Buddhist Culture (IABC) and the International Association of Shin Buddhist Studies (IASBS) and consists therefore of two parts: a more academic part (on Fr. 31.08) and a part focusing on dharma talks. The conference fee amounts to 30 Euro per day, alternatively you can pay 60 Euro for the whole conference.
You can attend the conference as a listener, but you are also invited to give your own presentation on an aspect of the conference issue „The Importance of Sangha“. In this case let us know the title and give a short account of your presentation. We scheduled 30 to 40 minutes (plus 10 minutes discussion) for an academic presentation, and 15 to 20 minutes (plus discussion) for a dharma talk. The closing date for submitting the complete paper is June 30th.
We are honored to announce that the conference will be held in presence of the Shinmon-sama, H. E. Kōjun Ōtani. Therefore there will be the opportunity to receive the kikyōshiki (confirmation ceremony) on September 2nd.
We have prepared an application form on all relevant questions concerning your attendance and accomodation. Please fill in this form sheet and send it back until April 30 th. Then we will confirm your enrolment as soon as possible.
We recommend to entrust the hotel reservation to the EKŌ House, since group discount is possible. According to our experiences with former conferences, nevertheless some participants prefer to make the hotel reservation individually. Please note in this case, that there is a trade fair in Düsseldorf at the same time, which make an early reservation recommandable. Note also, that depending on the hotel different deadlines for the last free cancellation exist.
For further information please also refer to our website: www.eko-haus.de or send an e-mail to Rev. Eda: firstname.lastname@example.org
We would be glad to welcome you at the conference.
Sincerely, with Gassho
